Postdoctoral Position: Postdoctoral Fellow (Psychology)
Yale-NUS College is a highly selective liberal arts and science college in Singapore. Co-founded by Yale University and the National University of Singapore, the College is committed to excellence in research and teaching in a full residential programme that integrates living and learning. The central project is a longitudinal, multi-methodological study of the factors that lead adults to pursue life-long learning opportunities in Singapore. These questions will be studied through surveys, focus groups, and interviews. The Fellow will contribute to all aspects of the project, such as design, data collection, coding, data analysis, writing manuscripts, and follow-up grant proposals. The Fellow will also be encouraged to join other projects in the lab and to initiate their own collaborative research related to motivation, goals, mindsets or similar topics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. at the time of hiring. Degrees in psychology (social, personality, industrial/organizational) or in organizational behavior will be given preference, although applicants from other disciplines with the relevant skills and interests are also encouraged to apply (e.g., developmental and educational psychology, sociology).
Postdoctoral Position: Postdoctoral Fellow (Urban Extreme Weather Modeling)
We are re-advertising a position for a highly motivated researcher to lead a modeling study of extreme weather events over Singapore using the newly developed urban-scale weather and climate model at the Center for Climate Research Singapore, CCRS which is part of the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS). The successful candidate is expected to apply and evaluate the performance of the 100 m urban model known as uSINGV to simulate extreme rainfall and wind events in Singapore. uSINGV is developed by CCRS in collaboration with the UK Met Office and other members of the Unified Model (UM) partnership. The research work includes selection of extreme and high-impact weather cases (with heavy rainfall and strong winds), consolidation of observational data for use in model evaluation, model improvements needed for high resolution applications, setting up numerical experiments and evaluation of simulations, presentation of results at conferences/meetings and writing of progress reports and scientific papers. Developing a suitable methodology to properly evaluate high-resolution simulations with observations will also be an important task. Successful candidates must have a PhD in a related field, ideally obtained within the last 6 years, relevant modeling experience, ability to work with large datasets, ability to work well with others and independently, and excellent technical, organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal to disseminate key results to the academic community, project partners and government stakeholders. The position will be based in the urban climate lab of the Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore, NUS.
